QDFM

some pages, in the flatting process with these, doing cuts (shadows, edges) and knockouts (lines changed to color) so Rico can get started. not much happens action-wise, but there was a lot to set-up and build. areas in the bar that are money shots here were established in the backgrounds of a couple previous pages- so ive been working fowards and backward a bit to keep things consistent. next issue has a house party and, given the environmental juggle that is the bar/4 patrons over a chunk of pages now, im looking towards using a 3-d model for it. dont expect to save any time, just stress. in the book MATADOR Brian Stelfreeze did a page with what looked like 3D, two people having breakfast on a boat, the (imaginary)camera makes a rotation around this full-table setting over the course of a few shots. not too many people could mentally rotate and draw all that, brians one of them, but not me. the pro-3D devil on my shoulder wants to use it, and for something i couldnt do otherwise- a castle of beer cans in the kitchen, from 16 different angles. as it stands, two scenes play out at this house party, one on the lawn, one on the second floor, with a view back and forth thru the window. i remember setting up a mini gotham city, with kleenex and cereal box stand-ins, to figure out a 7 page helicopter chase of batman over rooftops; it wouldve turned out better with 3D. anyways, enough blahlahblah. other pages in progress, side projects on the way. kobe. is "change" played? marvel sketch cards. 25. one month: gah! previous marvel cards and style experimentaccidents.

this is a modern world

Chris asked me to see what this would look like if I rendered the background the way I did it on that Tim Sale Hulk thing. I'd love to hear what anyone thinks about it.
I think I am going to need to back of on the darkness on this if I don't want to print all muddy like. We're so early in to this though and I have no idea of what paper it will be on and all that good spec type stuff.

almost there.....almost there......

just wanted to get something up, yeah, the kids are alive.....heres whats in the pipes right now. up top are 2 more Loose Ends pages i been tusslin with and one more of the Hawaiian Dick story (written by B Clay Moore, drawn by Shawn Crystal, colored, mostly within the lines, by myself). the Hawaiian story is done- it was a blast, an honor, an education. sometimes you dont need a break, jes a change of pace. id been crunching hard on Loose Ends for nights and days, falling asleep at the desk a couple times, when i got a holler from Shawn that the Hawaiian was needed ASAP. so instead of a break, i went on a 24 hour coloring jag, mailed off the pages and crashed. woke up, and felt.... refreshed! recharged! pages beget pages! what day is it today? anyways, the 3 posted pencilled pages from Loose Ends will be tied up this weekend. cannot wait. cannot show them all, not every panel, cause we need you to want to buy the book eventually. there's also 2 versions of a Loose Ends illo we did this month, but cant show, that i mention purely for the fun of teasing. its cool, youd really like it. Rico wrapped up a Perhapanauts annual, and is killing a Killing Girl cover as we speak, fingers crossed he'll share some of that. more on the way.......obama bumaye

Here's that Killing Girl cover I was "killing". I really like the way this came out, I hope Toby does too!

Happy New Year!

Happy new year folks. Sorry for lack of updates but rest assured that Chris and I are hard at work on the art for Loose Ends! We promise we'll give you a peek soon!

In the meantime, if you're not reading Criminal by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, it's good stuff!
